Probably overkill, but I'm a musician and often on the road and it's very handy to use the TV in a hotel/motel room or venue to view/share/present videos, photos, documents, chord charts, music etc wirelessly from pretty much any Apple device. I personally went for option 4): buy an AppleTV and an HDMI lead, connect AppleTV to the TV via HDMI, and enjoy wireless video and sound from my MBP, iMac, iPhone, iPad etc. (As long as the TV has HDMI input and your MBP is mid-2010 or newer) There’s no need to pick up a new headset when you’ve already got everything you need. This fixed it for me since your TV / display might not support all formats. Unlike HDMI, VGA does not carry sound at all, so you have 3 or 4 options: -1) run a stereo mini plug (aka 3.5mm headphone plug) cable/adapter from the MacBook Pro (MBP) headphone port to whatever audio input/s your TV has (stereo mini plug or left & right RCA plugs), or -2) if the TV supports optical digital audio input, run a 3.5mm mini TOSlink adapter and TOSlink cable from the MBP's. Go into the advance tab and try different audio formats. Right click the HDMI sound device and go to properties. If it still does not work, make sure Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is enabled by following these steps. If the HDMI connection does not appear in the list, restart the Surface with the adapter attached.
